The Capvera glossary

Every term you will hear on a call or read in a file, in one place. If a word here is unfamiliar, look it up before you get on the phone — not during.

Factor Rate

Funding language

The multiplier applied to the advance to get the purchased amount. Typically 1.15–1.55 on an MCA. It is not an APR.

Holdback / Retrieval

Funding language

The percentage of daily card sales withheld to repay an advance. This is how an MCA collects.

Advance Amount

Funding language

What the merchant receives up front.

Purchased Amount

Funding language

What the merchant repays in total — advance amount multiplied by the factor rate.

Paper Grade

Funding language

The funder's letter grade for a file. It drives pricing, terms, and which funders will look at it.

Position

Funding language

One outstanding advance against the business. First position means first in line.

Stacking

Funding language

Taking on additional positions while existing ones are open. Sometimes necessary, always a burden.

Burden %

Funding language

The percentage of revenue already going out to existing payments. The higher it is, the less room you have.

UCC-1

Funding language

The lien filing a funder places on business assets. It is how positions are publicly tracked.

Stipulations

Funding language

The additional items a funder requires before funding. Miss one and the deal stalls at the finish line.

Renewal

Funding language

A new advance offered to a merchant with a performing position. How a funded file climbs.

NSF

Banking language

Non-sufficient funds — a payment that bounced. A handful is a conversation; a pattern is a decline.

Negative Days

Banking language

Days the account balance went below zero. One of the fastest ways to kill a file.

Average Daily Balance

Banking language

The typical balance the account carries. Funders read it as a cushion against slow weeks.

True Revenue

Banking language

Revenue after off-rail and non-business noise is stripped out — what the business actually earns.

Deposit Consistency

Banking language

How evenly money lands month over month. Steady beats spiky almost every time.

Dilution

Banking language

The share of deposits that is not real business revenue — transfers, loans, personal money.

Clean ACH

Banking language

Deposits landing directly into the account from real payers, with nothing unusual around them.

Voided Check

Banking language

A check marked VOID used to confirm the business's account and routing details. Part of the holy trinity.

Clean File

Capvera language

Bankable today. On-rail deposits, consistent revenue, healthy balances, room left in the cash flow.

Build File

Capvera language

Real business, not bankable yet. Needs the rails installed and seasoned before it can fund.

Off the Rails

Capvera language

Money that never touches a bank account we can read — cash, unreported checks, personal payment apps.

Season

Capvera language

The 30–60 days of clean deposits that turn a build file into a fundable one.

Rails

Capvera language

The processing setup, usually Clover, that puts card volume on the statement where it counts.

Residual

Capvera language

The share of processing revenue that comes back to the merchant. Ours is 50%.

Holy Trinity

Capvera language

Statements or processing statements, voided check, and driver's license. Every file, every time.

AI Push

Capvera language

The stack check that decides whether a file is ready to fund or needs to be built.

Handoff

Capvera language

The completed package sent to a senior advisor — eight items, ending with your build-or-fund call and the reason.

MCA / RBF

Products

An advance against future revenue repaid as a percentage of daily card sales. Factor 1.15–1.55, 24–72 hours, bank-statement driven.

Split Pay Funding

Products

A percentage of each card batch split off automatically at the processor until the balance is retired. Multi-funder split lets more than one funder share the split.

Term Loan

Products

Fixed payment over a fixed term. The most predictable structure available, priced above SBA and far faster than it.

Line of Credit

Products

Approved once, drawn when needed, paid for only when used. Good for seasonal and inventory-driven businesses.

Equipment Financing

Products

Funds a specific machine, vehicle or build-out. The asset supports the approval and secures the deal.

Credit Card Stacking

Products

Multiple 0% intro cards opened in the same window and sequenced into working capital. Credit-driven, not revenue-driven.

SBA 7(a)

Products

Government-backed lending with the longest terms and lowest rates — and the slowest, heaviest file process.

SBA 504

Products

The SBA route built for fixed assets, most often real estate and large equipment. Same long timeline.

Partner Capital

Products

Capital sourced through partner relationships when a file does not fit our direct programs.

Lease Cap

Products

The monthly equipment price on a Clover lease, quoted by term — 24, 36 or 48 months. Every device has three numbers, and the longest term is not always the cheapest.

Clover Duo 2 Bundle

Products

$218/month at 24 months, $129 at 36 months, $225 at 48 months. Always quote the term alongside the price.

Clawback

Products

Applies if the merchant commits fraud or misrepresentation at any point up to lease end. Zero clawback once 90 days of payments are made on time.

Welcome Call

Products

Capvera's internal call on every new lease. Part of the process, and your documentation that the merchant understood what they signed.

Lesser Private Client Leasing

Products

The leasing side of the Clover program. Billing schedule and clawback terms live here, not with Clover.

Dual Pricing

Products

An alternative processing structure that presents a cash price and a card price at the point of sale.

Know the words, then prove it

Terminology, clean versus build, the process and the products — the final exam scores all four.
